1980 - 1983 Continued Abstraction and Transition Toward Figuration
Abstract compositions that highlighted the role of the paint itself, and the shallow, "illusionistic space" of the picture plane, became the means for improvisation in forming the image. The canvas became a space for invention within the composition. In time, an interest in the figure began to be incorporated into these images, in an abstracted way. Eventually, actual drawing from a posed model began, although abstract elements around the figures were still utilized, in constructing the images.
