Transitions  -  Inside-Outside  (2024)

After focusing on still life for several years now, I have recently started to think of some transitional ideas and approaches.  The still lifes take place within an indoor setting, and work directly with rendering those objects in the that indoor set-up.

I have become interested to explore ways to incorporate "the outside" as well, and also approach this in a more loose, abstract and improvisational way.  The idea of "inside/outside" comes into play:  an object or pottery piece in the foreground ("the inside"), and a suggested "place beyond" --- ("the outside").  

This first painting incorporates an abstracted view of the river with a distant bridge beyond;  "Downstream".
